When Harvard researchers looked at the eating habits of over 120,000 men and women over 20 years, they found that four foods were strongly linked to weight gain. The four worst waistline offenders were as follows: potato chips, potatoes (this included french fries!), sugar-sweetened beverages (primarily pop or soft drinks), red meat and processed meats. Lack of exercise, watching television and lack of sleep were also tied to expanding waistlines. Weight gain for most people was gradual, but year after year, it really added up. Which foods were linked to healthier waistlines? More natural, whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains and yogurt went hand in hand with healthier waistlines. This study doesn’t surprise me. What you eat matters. Make food choices that are good for your health and good for your waistline too!
To limit weight gain, limit your intake of potato chips, french fries, sugary drinks, red meat and processed meat. For a healthier waistline enjoy fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains and yogurt.
