Cuisine Canada Gold Book Award (November 2008)

On November 7th, 2008 my co-author, Mairlyn Smith, and I were invited to attend the 11th Annual Canadian Culinary Book Awards. These awards are presented by Cuisine Canada and the University of Guelph. They recognize excellence and creativity in food writing and recipes. We were told our latest book had been shortlisted as a potential winner. The event was held at the Royal Winter Fair. There was food to taste, wine to sip and about two hundred people in attendance. When it came time to announce the winners, both Mairlyn and I waited with baited breath. Would we win? Was it possible? Silver was announced and our book had still not been mentioned. It was time for gold. And the winner is… “Ultimate Foods for Ultimate Health, and don’t forget the chocolate!” We won! What an incredible honour and feeling to win – especially to win gold. A book is a labour of love. Few people understand the time and effort that goes into its making. Our book was no exception. As I poured through the research, Mairlyn tested recipe after recipe. In the end we put together a book that both of us are so proud to put our names on. It’s a book that many people love so much, that after buying it for themselves, they buy copies for all their family and friends. It’s a book that is research-based, realistic and loaded with delicious recipes. Most importantly, it is a book that has truly changed the way people eat and live.

Have a happy, healthy day!
From a truly proud and happy winner,
Liz Pearson
