My Mission...

My mission is to inspire people through my writing and speaking to experience more “deliciousness” in all aspects of their lives. What does “deliciousness” mean to me? It means delightful, wonderful and highly pleasing to the senses! Food, including healthy food, should be delicious. Choosing nutritional all-stars and disease-fighting superstars helps fuel a long, healthy and delicious life. A delicious life overflows with wonderful things like love, joy, fun and adventure. Where does my mission come from? It comes straight from my heart - it is who I am, what I believe in and what I strive for every day. I hope your life will be better and more delicious, because of my contribution to it!

What Are Some Cool Things I've Done In the Field of Nutrition

I've done a lot of cool things. I worked as a nutrition columnist for Chatelaine magazine for seven years. That was cool. I learned a lot. I've written three books and the last two have been National Bestsellers and both won prestigious awards, including the Gold Award from Cuisine Canada. This is an award for excellence in nutrition writing and recipes. I've done a lot of consulting for big food companies like Unilever, Nestlé’s, Campbell’s, Loblaws, Ronzoni and Dare Foods. I've been featured in many magazines and been on lots of television and radio shows. Lastly, I've done a ton of speaking engagements, which is what I really enjoy most. My clients say they're happy they hired me and that makes me happy. Bottom line, I've done some pretty cool stuff in my career and it keeps getting cooler (or hotter depending on how you look at things)!

P.S. My next book is called “Broccoli, Love & Dark Chocolate” (Because food, love & life should be delicious!). It’s the best book I've written so far. It contains my most valuable life lessons about food and living your life well. My oldest daughter recently said to me “mom, finish the book, your fans are waiting!”. Let's hope they are, because I think it will be worth the wait!

How Did I End Up Being a Dietitian Who Loves Peanut Butter
Sandwiches & Always Leaves Room for Chocolate?

Do you believe in fate? I do. At the end of high school I made an appointment with a guidance counselor at Ryerson (a university in downtown Toronto) to get information about their Interior Design program. While I was in the waiting room I picked up a pamphlet someone left behind about the nutrition program. Upon meeting the counselor I mentioned both programs. He convinced me that nutrition was the future! From the day I started the program, I loved it! Nutrition is so relevant. Everybody eats. Some people better than others, which is why I'm here. I love my work and the people I work with. I'd love the opportunity to work with you! As for my love of peanut butter sandwiches, I like them best with honey or homemade strawberry jam. When it comes to chocolate, I think everyone should leave room in life for the things they love, which for me and most people, includes chocolate!

My Love Affair Began in Grade 7

I discovered my love of speaking when I came in second place in a speaking competition at my elementary school. My speech was on medieval tortures (a girl with a much happier, friendlier topic came in first). Since then I have pursued speaking with a passionate abandon and it's not just speaking that I love. I also love researching and analyzing as well. This is especially important in the world of nutrition where no one knows what to believe any more and there’s a ton of research to sort through. When you hire me, I'm certain that my love of speaking, researching and looking at stuff from many different angles will shine through brightly. My love of learning from life is also evident. I consider myself a keen and even exceptional student. I love to share my most painful life lessons - the kind I try not to repeat (easier said than done!), as well as the lessons that make my life great!

Other Interesting Things About Me (kids, dogs, hockey & dancing!)

I have two beautiful daughters that I love with all my heart. They love me as well, at least most of the time. What do I do in my spare time? I believe that nature nurtures the soul. On the days I'm not traveling, I walk my neighbour's dog (a beautiful Husky) in the ravine near my house. I also play on a woman’s hockey team for fun in the winter and a ball hockey team in the spring. Some of the players yell at me ("Liz you're offside... again!"). Sometimes it annoys me, but most of the time, I just really enjoy the game. Lastly, I have a love of dancing and start most speaking engagements by doing just that (it might sound crazy, but it works!).

A Message About Miracles…

The last thing you should know about me - and this is going to sound really corny, but its true - is that I believe in miracles! I have made miracles happen, for at least some people anyway. I have dramatically changed the way some people look at food, the way they look at life and most importantly, the way they choose to live their life.

P.S. Miracles come in many sizes. They can be big, giant and over-sized or teeny, tiny, small. I welcome miracles of any and all sizes! I would love to create miracles with you!
