A Great Life Includes Great Music

rsz_musicThe other day I had lunch with a long-time friend.  He told me that his mother recently lost most of her hearing and that she doesn’t like to use hearing aids.  As a result, the world for her now is a much quieter place.  What does she miss the most?  Listening to music.  This made me think about two things.  First, it made me think of how we get caught up in the small stuff of life and take the big stuff for granted, like being able to hear!  Second, it made me think about my own love of music.  To say that I love music is an understatement.  It is truly a passion of mine and always has been.  When I used to teach aerobics, I never made money from teaching.  I spent it all on the next playlist.   When my brother got married, I was the disc jockey.  For me planning a party is about planning the music.  My daughter recently said that we couldn’t have an exchange student live at our house, because I play the music too loud (ha ha!).   What is it about music that I find so significant and so compelling?  I think when it comes right down to it, music is an expression of the soul.  It makes life and everything in life bigger and brighter!  A happy song makes you feel happier.  A soulful song makes you feel more soulful.  A sad song lets you feel your sadness and a love song allows the love to flow.  If you accept the premise that when you “feel” life, you “live” life, then music helps you to live life that much better.  Music is a treasured gift and as long as music can be a part of my life, I know that it will be.  Take some time to listen and appreciate the music today!

Lessons Learned:

Music expresses what the soul can’t.  It makes life bigger, bolder and more brilliant.  It connects you to yourself, to others and to life itself.  Let the music play!  Let it be all it can be for you today and every day!
